RUHR.2010 Designkiosk at Het Parcours, Maastricht

European Capital of Culture moves art from museums into everyday life. During the "Het Parcours" in Maastricht, September 11 – 12, 2010 RUHR.2010 will be presenting a mobile edition of the Ruhr kiosk, the Mobile Designkiosk. It will be located at the "het Vrijthof" square in Maastricht old town on Saturday, September 11, 20:00 - 24:00 hrs and on Sunday, September 12, 12:00 - 18:30 hrs. / MORE

C.A.R. - The innovative art fair

In 2010 art fair contemporary art ruhr (C.A.R.) takes place in five exhibition halls and more than 5000 squaremetres as an increasingly international art fair with the main objective to develop a long term arts marketplace that the contemporary art ruhr (C.A.R.) is an innovative and dynamic fair format. The participants are coming from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary or North America.

John Cale among the highlights of “Theatre of the World” festival

"Theatre of the World" has arrived at the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The festival kicked off with the world premiere of “Montezuma“, an international opera production, June 30 at Mülheim’s Stadthalle. In addition to dance and young Japanese theatre, the festival will showcase a true superstar: John Cale, the experimental rocker and co-founder of The Velvet Underground. / MORE

The Beauty of the Big Road

"B1|A40 – The beauty of the big road" is the title of an exhibition from June 12 to August 8, 2010, as part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. It shows a region that is reinventing itself along the big road. Six exhibition spaces with different themes were created by 17 internationally renowned artists, planners and architects – turning the region's main traffic artery, the A40 motorway, and its immediate surroundings into a vital public space in the heart of the Ruhr metropolis. / MORE

Greatest choir in the world: !SING DAY OF SONG finale with more than 60,000 singers

"A beautiful day" - that was the title of the final song sung at the final concert as well as a fitting summary of the !SING – DAY OF SONG project. 600 concerts all over the Ruhr Metropolis and many thousands of singers turned the whole Ruhr region into one gigantic choir. / MORE

An island for the arts - Beauty at second glance

From May 29 to September 5, 2010, Emscher Island will play host to 20 installations and interventions by 40 internationally renowned artists including Monica Bonvicini, Mark Dion, Ayse Erkmen, Jeppe Hein, Olaf Nicolai and Rita McBride. The exhibition, which is outdoors and free and open to the public for 100 days, is called EMSCHERKUNST.2010. / MORE

Dortmunder U – Centre for Art and Creativity open now

The Dortmunder U – Centre for Art and Creativity was opened this Friday, 28 May, in the presence of the North-Rhine Westphalian Minister President Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers. The Prologue Programme will begin with four exhibitions on three floors in addition to installations by the film artist Adolf Winkelmann. Choirs from Pécs, Istanbul and 14 different countries at !SING – DAY OF SONG

On June 5, 2010 more than 65,000 singers will transform the Ruhr Metropolis into a Choir Metropolis at the !SING – DAY OF SONG closing event at VELTINS Arena in Gelsenkirchen (Germany). Choirs from the other European Capitals of Culture this year, Pécs (Hungary) and Istanbul, will also participate: the a-capella male choir "Béla Bartók Choir" from Hungary and the mixed a-capella choir "Group 34" from Turkey. The musical programme stretches from classical to rock, folklore to jazz, popular to sacred. / MORE

Ruhrblicke - Ruhr views

The exhibition "Ruhrblicke" (Ruhr Views) combines new insights with glances into the future and the past. Ruhrblicke looks at the reality of life in the Ruhr region through the eyes of 11 renowned photographers: Hilla Becher, Laurenz Berges, Joachim Brohm, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Andreas Gursky, Jitka Hanzlová, Candida Höfer, Matthias Koch, Elisabeth Neudörfl, Jörg Sasse and Thomas Struth were all invited by curator Thomas Weski and sponsors Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe to take part in the photography project as part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The artists’ works will be on display April 24 to October 24, 2010, at the SANAA building on the historic Zeche Zollverein site in Essen. / MORE
