The !SINGstation
Functioning as an interactive element and serving as a conceptual link among all the Local Heroes weeks, a specially developed !SINGstation will be passed – like a relay baton – from one Local Hero to the next. The !SINGstation can be used to transmit musical greetings and songs from one town’s residents and visitors to the following Local Heroes towns. In this way, during the 52 weeks which the Capital of Culture spans, a (musical) map for the Ruhr Metropolis will be created, reflecting the cultural variety of the 53 towns in that conurbation.
The musical map is to be a lasting record and - just like the model project in Amsterdam – will be available after the close of the project at its web site (www.singsaeule.de). Kicking off the series of events, the !SINGstation was first seen at the RUHR.2010 official opening ceremonies on January 9 and 10, at the grounds of the Zollverein mine, now a World Heritage Site. All the visitors are warmly invited to contribute their voices and to help construct the musical map of the Ruhr Metropolis.
A selection of the welcoming messages and songs on the !SINGstation will be presented once a week by the ByteFM webcasting station, in the programme ByteFM TourKalender.
