For Deutsche Bahn, European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 is an important event, lending us an opportunity to present ourselves as one of the world’s leading mobility and logistics companies to a wide audience from Germany and the rest of Europe.

As the “official logistics partner of European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010”, DB Schenker will provide many and varied transport and logistics services; in Essen, services connected with RUHR.2010 will be coordinated in the DB Schenker logistics centre, and transports will be concentrated in an efficient and environmentally responsible way. As logistics provider, DB Schenker will be involved amongst other things in the opening ceremony and in the still-life project on the A40 / B1, the world’s largest tableau. For these events, we will set up thousands of tables and benches, and dismantle them all again afterwards. In short, we will go on record as the logistics partner in the Ruhr metropolitan region.

As the official mobility partner of Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, DB Passenger Transport will be offering attractive regional and national services. We will be advertising attractive DB Bahn Long Distance offers and mobility solutions on site for visitors to the Capital of Culture, e.g. the Call a Bike rental system. Visitors will also be able to discover the Ruhr metropolis in a comfortable and environmentally responsible way aboard our new S-Bahn trains of DB Bahn Regional NRW or using the buses of DB Bahn Urban.

Major stations in the Ruhr metropolitan region will be redesigned into attractive hubs in time for the event. Essen main station will be completed by the beginning of 2010, and the passenger buildings at Dortmund and Duisburg stations will also receive a new look.
