E.ON Ruhrgas
Shaping one's "home region"
with energy and art
"Essen for the Ruhr" – the choice of our home region as the European capital of culture fills us with pride. For in its capacity as one of the leading gas suppliers in Europe, E.ON Ruhrgas feels equally connected and committed to Essen and the Ruhr metropolitan region.
Over a period of more than 80 years our company has grown from being a regional supplier – at first for coking gas – to an internationally operating natural gas company. By promoting arts and culture E.ON Ruhrgas has entered into a dialogue in and beyond the borders of Germany, about its products, services, its company and its involvement in business and society. At the same time it has simultaneously consolidated long-standing relationships with important natural gas producing countries like Russia, Norway and the Netherlands.
Art has always been a source of inspiration to mankind. It creates new insights, connections and interrelations. During the European Capital of Culture year the Ruhr metropolitan area has a unique opportunity to present itself to the world in all its diversity and uniqueness. For this reason E.ON Ruhrgas has committed itself to the project as a major sponsor. In a tried and tested partnership with the Folkwang Museum E.ON Ruhrgas will be supporting two major special exhibitions in the new museum building during the Capital of Culture year. "The Most Beautiful Museum in the World. The Folkwang Museum until 1933", (March – July 2010); and "Images of a Metropolis. The Impressionists in Paris", (October 2010 – January 2011). The first exhibition reconstructs the spectacular Museum collection as it was in 1933, and brings to mind the total Folkwang project as developed by its founder, Karl Ernst Osthaus. The second exhibition is devoted to the modern city as it developed from the middle of the 19th century in Paris as a centre for modern art. The support given by E.ON Ruhrgas to these two exhibitions is a logical continuation of its commitment to the cultural life of the inhabitants of the Ruhr metropolitan area.
You can look forward to two very special artistic events during the RUHR.2010 European Capital of Culture year. At the same time you will be experiencing two glittering exhibition highpoints and discovering Essen, a city full of energy and art.
