emscherKUNST.2010
The Emscher Island is the centrepiece of the New Emscher Valley.
It has a total areaof around 11 square kilometres and stretches for 34 kilometres between the towns of Castrop Rauxel in the east and Oberhausen in the west. It is a narrow leisure axis between 30 and 2000 metres wide situated between the Rhine-Herne canal and the River Emscher. The planned "emscherKunst.2010" exhibition is intended to make visitors more palpably aware of the many different exciting usages and the renaturisation now existing in the area. Art in public spaces with urbane themes, but also aspects of garden and landscape art, will all play a role in the exhibition curated by Florian Matzner. The exhibition will be presented for the first time during the Capital of Culture year, after which it will be repeated on a three-year basis.
