Some real art treasures are hidden away in the offices of many business companies in the Ruhr. These collections, which have grown up over the years, are mostly not accessible to the general public.
Now, for the first time ever the region’s businesses are opening up their doors for the Capital of Culture year, thereby harking back to former times. For at the start of the last century the industrialist, patron and art collector, Karl Ernst Osthaus made his collection available to the public at large.
In the “Ruhr Business Gallery” project, business companies will be exhibiting their collections, not only in their own rooms but in a central exhibition as well, as a sign of their social commitment to culture. Thus visitors will have the opportunity to discover everything which otherwise would remain hidden. Supporting organisations for the project are the “Verein pro Ruhrgebiet”, the “Museum Bochum” and many businesses in the region.
