National Poetry Slam
A poetry slam is a lightning lyrical competition in which poets recite their texts to an audience in a very short time. The jury is the audience itself. Poets get a direct and immediate feedback from the audience’s spontaneous reactions including catcalls, cheers and laughter, and are therefore spurred on to present their texts in as lively a fashion as possible.
The National Poetry Slam is the German-language championship for poets from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 2010 it will be taking place for the first time in the Ruhr Metropolis. Over the last two years Bochum, Essen, Duisburg and Oberhausen in particular have become the centres of this unconventional form of pop poetry. Here the 300 best and wittiest German poets will be “slamming” their way through the region for four days. Quicker, louder, reciter.
