Young people enjoyed the limelight: in the night from 3 to 4 July, the stages and streets, towns and cities of the Ruhr Metropolis belonged to the young.

Graffiti, hip-hop, rock and break-dancing in Gladbeck. Modern dance and stand-up comedy in Ennepetal. Theatre, dance, video art and painting in Bottrop. Film and photography, skating and climbing in Dorsten. Camp fires, night-time walks, BMXing and parcour in Bergkamen. Fire and flame at a torchlight dinner in Selm. Rapping until dawn in Marl. A poetry slam in Oer-Erkenschwick. Mermen and kings performing in Witten. Hands-on art and culture in Werne. Media, sport, design and music in Lünen. Variety acts, disco music and impro in every corner of Essen. Body painting, video performances and street acts throughout Dortmund. Hamm made a noise with graffiti and street art. Different cultures cooked up a stew in Hagen. Rap culture stirred Wetter. Hip-hop, break-dancing and a band night in Gelsenkirchen. Night-time climbing with a concert in Bönen. Creative and crazy in Herten. And that wasn’t all by any means!

The night also belonged to youngsters in Bochum, Castrop-Rauxel, Datteln, Duisburg, Fröndenberg, Hamminkeln, Hattingen, Herne, Moers, Mülheim, Oberhausen, Recklinghausen and Waltrop. On marketplaces, in youth art schools, theatres, museums, libraries, community centres, schools, parks, and even in open-air swimming pools, at a ship lift and a winding tower - youngsters everywhere danced, rapped, partied, read, crafted, skated, performed, made music, played football and showed off their BMX skills. At more than 130 events - from evening until dawn.

"A Night of Youth Culture" offered both culture for young people and - most importantly, culture by young people. It was they who determined what culture is as they lit up the night throughout the entire region. The name of the game everywhere was to join in and have fun!
