September is going to be "massive" - because it's then that youth again takes centre stage within the European Capital of Culture. Centring on the West Leisure Centre (FZW) in Dortmund and the Dortmund U, the Youth.Culture.Awards.Festival NRW & RUHR.2010 takes place from 16 to 19 September and will involve more than 1,000 participating young people, over 100 performing groups, guest projects from all over Europe and a separate youth and children's programme.

Young people will determine the artistic development of the festival from beginning to end: they will help to design the programme and select the winners of the sought-after awards worth a total of 20,000 euros in prize money. They will make the four-day festival exciting, varied and, above all, fun. Every area of the artistic expression will be represented: from music, dance, drama, literature through new media to fine arts.

Workshops, performances, exhibitions and concerts will give children and young people from the Ruhr Metropolis, North Rhine-Westphalia and Europe the opportunity to come together to present the results of their projects to a jury panel and the public, to support one another and to work together on new and exciting ideas. It's a time for celebration - and not only during the awards ceremony for the Youth Culture Prize.

The new Dortmund U, an internationally oriented centre for art and creativity, will provide a venue for experimentation for hundreds of young artists. And while the FZW will be mainly occupied by young people, the smallest competitors will be strutting their stuff in the Fletch Bizzel Theatre's Spiegelzelt - and celebrating the presentation of a special prize for cultural projects by and involving children.

In conjunction with the SEE YOU festival, the NRW Children's and Youth Cultural Prize will be awarded to outstanding projects from around the state.

The competition to decide the winners of the RUHR.2010 Award for special projects during the Capital of Culture year and the European workshop and encounter programme also promise plenty of excitement.
