A universal communication medium, photography is a vehicle for information and values. Only insiders know that the Ruhr Metropolis is among those regions of Europe that, for decades, have offered photography training of the highest standard, producing internationally acclaimed photographers in the process.

RUHR.2010 and the "bild.sprachen" project aim to increase awareness of this regional strength. The focus of the fair is photography at the interface between applied technique (design) and art. The fair is advertised as a communications platform and networking venue for producers and users. It also gives young photographers the chance to present their work to a large audience of potential customers.

One goal of "bild.sprachen" is to help ensure that, for those young people who take advantage of the Ruhr's outstanding training courses, the region also offers the best opportunities for them to further their careers. The fair will include talks and presentations examining current trends in professional photography and their application, complemented by practitioner displays, lectures and seminars throughout the year.

The fair and accompanying events are designed to promote the establishment and development of the network of regional protagonists and serve as a platform for enhancing national and international awareness of the regional profile of Ruhr photography.
