The triviality and impermanence of Internet clips is a thing of the past. Artistic quality is in. With as broad an audience as possible. Short films on the net are a potential vehicle for cultural dialogue, artistic quality, aesthetic enjoyment and intelligent entertainment.
EUROPE IN SHORTS is an Internet exhibition of European short films presented on the interactive web TV platform "2010lab". With the Internet as its medium, this project reveals the diversity of European film culture. From a European perspective, the aim is to enhance the profile and attractiveness of the Ruhr Metropolis as a film location.
From Spring 2010, the web TV and blog platform "2010lab" will be presenting European short films and their countries of origin: two new films and accompanying information each week. Once the year is over, the website will offer a comprehensive selection of short films - a representative snapshot of the art of short-film-making in Europe.
EUROPE IN SHORTS provides an insight into the various countries of Europe and their short-film scene. Artistic quality is the key criterion. And the technical quality must be consistent with that artistic quality: the films will be presented on the Internet in accordance standard definition (SD) TV technology and protected against downloading. EUROPE IN SHORTS will thus act as a virtual, multilingual forum for movers and shakers in the European cultural landscape.
The project takes a deliberate step back from the competitive character of the Festival. It sees itself as the foundation of a cultural network aimed at facilitating contacts and communication within the European short-film scene and encouraging content-focused discussion in relation to the art short film production in Europe.
