Following the pilot of the first "RUHR European Film Week / European Film Academy (EFA)" in December 2009, which involved over 70 screenings in selected cinemas throughout the Ruhr Metropolis and a major gala event at the listed Lichtburg cinema in Essen, the EFA will be offering an insight into the quality and diversity of European film in the Capital of Culture year.
In cooperation with the European Film Academy, highly promising European directors will again be invited to participate during the Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 year. Held over three days, the event will afford an opportunity for the in-depth exchange of experiences and the chance to make new contacts
It will be held in the unique ambience of a former refugee camp. With its abandoned schools and flats from the 1960s, Unna Massimo is a private venue where the participants will have the space and peace they require to nurture their ideas for the films of the future. The Creative.Quarter will also serve as their base for exploring the Ruhr region - and it is hoped that they will return in coming years.
