The objective of the "Jazzatlas Ruhr" is to network all jazz activities in the Ruhr Metropolis. On 16 April 2009 a "Jazzatlas Ruhr" (commissioned by RUHR.2010) was produced as a CD-ROM. It is aimed at jazz players, reporters and an international music audience.

This prototype on CD-ROM has now been followed by the integration of the "Jazzatlas Ruhr" information tool on the Web TV and blog platform "2010lab", which can be continuously updated and expanded by the community.

Jazz in the Ruhr Metropolis is a landscape with densely populated strongholds, almost empty blank areas and the occasional enclave. For those prepared to make the journey, there is an enormous diversity to be found in this region.

The "domicil" in Dortmund is one of the most attractive jazz clubs - and one of the major German jazz events is the Moers Festival, while the Philharmonie Essen offers an unparalleled range of jazz for a classic venue. The Jazz degree course at the Folkwang University in Essen ensures a creative and well-educated next generation.

However, with all this diversity, it is difficult to get a clear overview. The "Jazzatlas Ruhr" brings some order and structure to the jazz scene in a reference work of texts, sound and images. The various local, regional and national jazz venues are presented in its over 20 sections. And numerous original sounds and audio clips make this "atlas" a living and vivid creation.

The "Jazzatlas" will help the Ruhr jazz scene gain international recognition. "Jazzatlas Ruhr" is a multimedia project by Michael Rüsenberg, who made a name in the scene with his WDR-3 radio report on jazz venues in North Rhine-Westphalia.
