Strengthening the creative economy means strengthening its various branches. Four industry commissions provide support for the regional strategies of cultural and creative enterprises. These commissions were set up by RUHR.2010, which also coordinates and assists them.

The Ruhr Music Commission is an amalgam of experienced music executives. New initiatives and specific measures are to promote the music industry in the Ruhr Metropolis on a sustainable basis aligned to the future.

The Ruhr Games Commission effectively networks the regional computer games industry and encourages the migration of new companies into the Ruhr area.
The Games Factory Ruhr was started in Mülheim an der Ruhr in summer 2009. As games developers, suppliers and entrepreneurs now work there together under the one roof, they are able to create networks.

In addition, funding of the games prototypes is to be initiated in 2010. CommCommission Ruhr represents the interests of the communications industry in the Ruhr Metropolis, which, with a total of 6500 companies, is the largest sector in the region. The aim of this commission is to establish the agencies of the Ruhr as lead agencies within Germany.

In the design field there are thousands of companies with very varied structures, aims and requirements. Design Commission Ruhr represents the interests of designers in their dealings with the municipalities and funding institutions. Other commissions are in the planning stage.

In June 2009 the Commission.Metropole.Ruhr was founded - a confederation of all industry commissions to facilitate regional cross-sectoral activities.
It will be involved throughout the year in the "Creative Class Ruhr" programme.
