pottfiction - Theatre, art and camps for young people from the Ruhr Metropolis

Young people have visions - for a better world and for the future of their region and their lives. "pottfiction" ("Pott" is the local nickname for the Ruhr) asks young people between the ages of 13 and 21 the key question: "What is your idea of a better world and what are you prepared to do to achieve it?"
Seven children's and young people's theatres from the Ruhr, Berlin design collective anschlaege.de, Stiftung Mercator (Mercator Foundation) and RUHR.2010 offer young people a festival-type project from summer 2009 to summer 2010 with two large camps, regular themed forums and a large number of individual projects. Through their dialogue with artists, the young people will develop methods and structures to modify and enhance their current environment.
The project was launched in summer 2009 with an opening camp in Gelsenkirchen. During the month of August, 130 young people lived, worked and celebrated together with international artists in a "circle of wagons" consisting of 16 trailers. Ideas were developed, concepts realised and art spaces were designed in a series of workshops, including street art, parkour, street theatre and beat boxing. After this exhilarating launch, it is now the turn of the seven involved theatres to carry it forward.
Before the final camp in 2010 in Herne, young people in the towns will be developing their own projects on various topics. From theatrical productions through to small individual projects, (almost) anything is possible! Dance, performances, interventions in public spaces, writing workshops and film projects will all be created.
The participants will develop new areas together with artists from the theatres in their towns - places where the future can be negotiated and new horizons of experience opened up. The focus here is on work, education, love, home and belief - and what can be done to achieve more opportunities, justice and freedom.
