"I'm waiting for my fucking life to decrypt," exclaims a character in René Pollesch’s "Heidi Hoh arbeitet hier nicht mehr" (Heidi Hoh no longer works here) from the year 2000. The key motif of his work is the constant attempt by everyone involved to get to grips with a world that has become unmanageable. The actor's tirades reveal neither defined characters nor cohesive storylines. Instead, the performer's flow of words jumps from one association to the next, often at break-neck speed, moving between film quotations, social critique and philosophical models of thought proposed by philosophers from Agamben to Baudrillard.

"My work," says Pollesch, "lives from a competence for what my problems are, from my desire to locate myself, my desire to orientate myself and from the attendant energy." His works deal with the ongoing economisation of every area of life, the privatisation of private space, the concept of the middle-class family and the disintegration of a human subject in the media age.

Spread over three years, the Ruhrtrilogy is an open-air project in which the urban landscape of the Ruhr plays a supporting role. To conclude the project and as an additional highlight of the Capital of Culture programme, all three episodes were performed in succession during June.
