Rimini Protokoll: Mr. Dağacar and the Golden Tectonics of Trash
Istanbul and the Ruhr are two highly different European Capitals of Culture. While the Ruhr region is shrinking, the erstwhile magical metropolis on the Bosporus is becoming a fast-paced, voracious mega-city. The work of the world-renowned Rimini Protokoll ensemble, which has a series of invariably stunning productions under its belt, is concerned with searching for the mechanisms that underlie this self-destructive dynamism.
They cast an eagle eye over individual perspectives from the heart of the city. As part of their research, Helgard Haug and Daniel Wetzel followed rubbish collectors from East Anatolia as they trawled the city, keeping a watchful eye for refuse, the value of which is in turn coupled with the global market and the price of copper, steel and gold. During their numerous encounters, Rimini Protokoll seeks out people who will take to the stage and present the various strategies for survival.
