Out of this World
Wonders of the Solar System
The gasometer is more than an industrial monument. Since its decommissioning it has become a striking landmark for an entire region. This gigantic "cathedral of industry" offers a unique experience of space. The "Sternstunden" exhibition takes visitors on a journey into the cosmos.
Spectacular representations of the planetary system, extraordinary images of the sun, historical instruments and state-of-the-art aerospace technology graphically present the development of our solar system. The exhibition combines natural science, cultural history and artistic perspectives and offers new findings as well as aesthetic pleasure.
The cosmic dimensions are reflected in the unique size of the exhibition hall. The arena provides a spectacular experience of space orbited by the "largest moon on Earth", 25 metres in diameter. A gigantic sculpture shows the earth's satellite in all its detail and in its various phases and appearances. The music of the spheres transforms the gasometer into a planetary experience.
