A Star Is Born. Photography and rock since Elvis is a special exhibition that will be shown at the Museum Folkwang's Photography Collection in the summer of 2010. It will include around 350 exhibits, photographs, album covers, magazines and autographed pictures from six decades.

Photos by Ron Galella, Annie Leibovitz, Richard Avedon, Daniel Kramer, Mick Rock and Jerry Schatzberg - all of them stars behind the camera - will be on display. All of them made a significant contribution to turning rock stars into legends and creating their mythology. Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Frank Zappa, David Bowie and bands from the Rolling Stones to the Beatles, the White Stripes and Coldplay have all been photographed by them.

The Museum Folkwang's special exhibition shows how stars on both sides of the camera are shaping the image of rock music. Glamour portraits, journalistic documents from live performances and PR materials from record labels round out the first big exhibition of this kind in Germany - as well as photographs that highlight the cult-like admiration surrounding musical instruments and sound technology.

A Star Is Born. Photography and Rock since Elvis will be presented in the new exhibition space of the Museum Folkwang’s Photography Collection and will be accompanied by a large number of events.
