The Ruhr: once the home of coal and steel; today a remarkable and unusual cultural and natural landscape. The transformation process has given rise not only to entirely new lifestyles and forms of work; the face of the Ruhr region has also undergone fundamental change.

During the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 year, the Ruhr Museum is devoting a special exhibition to this topic: "Everything different again" comprises some 300 photographs, the majority of which are from the museum's own collections. They document and illustrate the history of a region formed by heavy industry and its transformation from the 1970s to the present day. The result is a contemporary iconography of the region and its people, places and changes.
