"Portrait of a young girl from Novi Sad" / Photo: Tania Reinicke & Ekkehart Bussenius
"A Day in my Life" - that's the theme of a photography project involving Ruhr metropolis photographers Tania Reinicke and Ekkehart Bussenius and around 30 young people from Novi Sad (Serbia) and Dortmund's Nordstadt, a part of the city strongly influenced by immigration. Photographs taken as part of the project will be shown at an exhibition in Dortmund.
The young people between the ages of 16 and 28 were asked to take pictures of their everyday lives, thereby documenting their experiences, views and lives in their home cities. How do they see their homes? What are their hopes and dreams? What would they like to change?
Tania Reinicke and Ekkehart Bussenius also took portrait photos of all participants and the urban landscapes of Dortmund and Novi Sad. The result is a photographic journey that shows similarities in the way people in Dortmund and Novi Sad interpret the terms "home" and "identity".

It shouldn't be taken for granted that people from different cultures can live together peacefully - as people in Dortmund's partner city of Novi Sad painfully experienced during the break-up of the former Yugoslavia. The city is the capital of Serbia's multi-ethnic Vojvodina province, which borders on Hungary, Croatia, Romania, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Dortmund's Nordstadt area was created as part of the development of the port and the steel and mining industries in the second half of the 19th century. In recent decades it has drawn substantial numbers of immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees and their families.
