Tobias Zielony is one of the leading young photographers of our time. His works ranges from classic documentary to conceptual presentation. His reportage-style photographs document how the subjects present themselves in their existing situations and spaces as well as what they are or pretend to be.

Zielony's work is similar to sociological and psychological analysis; his photographs explore sub-cultural melting pots and specific urban social environments.

Zielony will research the subjects of prostitution and immigration for several months in preparation for the exhibition at the Kunstverein in Dortmund. He will conduct his research in the red-light district between Dortmund's Juliusstrasse and Ravensberger Strasse, where more and more young women from Eastern Europe work as prostitutes. He will also head to Mallinckrodtstrasse where lots of Bulgarians work illegally. As in his previous projects, Zielony will establish contact with his subjects. The view through or with the camera is not the key element here. It is the personal contact and closeness to the photographed subjects that makes the work of Tobias Zielony so stimulating.
