RuhrArtMuseums
Twenty art museums from the Ruhr metropolis are joining forces under the new umbrella brand RuhrKunstMuseen - RuhrArtMuseums.
The RuhrArtMuseums see their union as a model for improving cooperation in the realm of the politics of culture as well as an important contribution to the development of the Ruhr metropolis. The museums' decision is a reflection of the RUHR.2010's key theme "Change through culture - culture through change" and makes them drivers of change. The RuhrArtMuseums consortium with its many holdings of 20th and 21st century art and a diverse program of exhibitions provides new impulses for cultural life in the Ruhr.
The RuhrArtMuseums will continue to collaborate closely in such areas as planning exhibitions, presenting their collections, communications and marketing well beyond 2010. Their first joint appearance at RUHR.2010 is the first test to see if the newly developed structures will be sustainable as well as a launch pad for new models of cooperation, which will initially take place in four areas:
• The realization of the multi-part exhibition Mapping the Region
• Setting up a network for education and procurement in the framework of the project "Collection Tours"
• The continuing development and sharpening focus of their different collections
• The publication of a catalogue giving an overview of the RuhrArtMuseums' collections of 20th and 21st century art
