Collection Tours
The "Collection Tours" project offers people the opportunity to intensively deal with the collections and exhibitions of the 20 museums that form the RuhrArtMuseums group. For the first time ever, the organizations are working together to find new ways to get people to be more interested in the arts.
Three separate programmes have been designed to address different target audiences. "Art x 2 and back" is for groups of students; "Tour East/West" and "Travel Talks" for adults. Buses will make sure that people can take part and move between sites starting in March 2010.
Art x 2 and back
Participating museums will pair up to develop a joint offering. Students who take part with their schools will be leaving their home towns and thereby be able to experience the Ruhr as a wider artistic space. Art x 2 and back consist of visits to two museums in two days – one in the students' home town, the other in another museum - using a common theme.
Overall, 700 events involving 20,000 students are planned. It's free for participating schools and bookings can be made starting in December 2009.
Tour East/West
The weekend bus tours connect at least three of the museums using a common theme; overall there will be 12 different themes. Specially trained guides will lead participants through the museums and provide background information.
Around 100 of these tours will be offered.
Travel Talks
The Travel Talks in connection with the Mapping the Region project turn buses into communication centres because they will be be joined by specially trained guides as well as representatives of other professions like architects, artists, researchers and regional planners. These encounters are designed to create an extraordinary experience and encourage unconventional thinking.
The Collection Tours concept was developed by the education and communication departments of the RuhrArtMuseums.
In cooperation with Deutsche Bank.
