Light 21
Light art visions for the 21st century

The exhibition project "Light 21" combines the topic of industrial architectural space with the future dimension of the medium of light in an artistic way.

The historic vaults of the subterranean exhibition space will be transformed into a type of laboratory. The location will be used to develop and study fluctuating models of light spaces through different productions involving the connection between light and architecture - in order to come up with a vision for new approaches to urban life.

This atmospheric compression of light will be experienced as a permanent transformation of the in- and exterior habitat in which poetry and reflection, rationalism and sensuality blend together. Works by HC Berg, Brigitte Kowanz and Christina Benz represent this way of transforming space through light, which has as its central theme not just the aesthetic but also the political and social relevance of the medium of light.

In this context, the light-space models presented in the exhibition represent an innovative form of cultural presence that visualizes the creative energy and visionary strength of the transforming Ruhr metropolis.
