Soundscape Ruhr

Sound artist Christina Kubisch will map the Ruhr metropolis in one of her characteristic creations. In addition to providing a novel way to experience the aesthetics of space, "Soundscape" is designed to bring to light the Ruhr metropolis' very own everyday sound structure.

Christina Kubisch takes visitors on so-called electric walks along previously defined tracks. Using headphones specially created for these walks, participants will be able to hear usually inaudible electromagnetic sounds including those made by computers, electronic security systems, digital transmission technologies, lights, transformers and other sources.

The artist has even developed a special acoustic choreography for the electric walk paths. The project's goal is to create an acoustic plan for an entire landscape. This acoustic plan can be observed either by using the specially created headphones while moving along the track or cartographically.

The acquired sound materials will also be used to compose a novel and unique acoustic portrait of the Ruhr metropolis.

The main exhibition for the Soundscape project will be shown at the Marl museum. Several locations in Marl and different RuhrArtMuseums will be the starting points for the sound journeys.
