A star-studded book festival. From 28 February to 21 March 2010, Recklinghausen, Castrop-Rauxel, Gladbeck, Herten, Marl, Oer-Erkenschwick, Dorsten, Haltern, Oberhausen, Gelsenkirchen and Herne will be swarming with poets, authors, writers and wordsmiths!

They can be sighted in coal mines, pubs, museums, cinemas, hairdressers', electricity substations, churches and the Planetarium around the corner, not to mention their usual literary habitats such as libraries and theatres.

Jochen Malmsheimer, Fritz Eckenga, Frank Goossen and Jan Zweyer will be among those representing the region's creative talent. Meanwhile, authors from all over Europe, like Herbert Rosendorfer, Hatice Akyün, Selim Özdoğan, Lale Akgün, Geert van Istendael and Dacia Maraini will give talks on the topic of "Local and foreign, rooted and migrant - here and now, in different regions of Europe, and in past epochs".

Books burnt by the National Socialists will be read aloud, renowned classical works will be dramatically staged, and there will be programmes of events tailored to the needs of children and young people.

Famous German writers such as Elke Heidenreich, Konrad Beikircher and Suzanne von Borsody are among those who have appeared in previous years.
