Since 1985, the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize has been awarded by the Robert Bosch Foundation to authors who write in German but whose native language or cultural background is not German. Five recipients of this renowned German literature prize are leading five-month writing workshops at schools in the Ruhr Metropolis:

Zehra Çirak in Dortmund, Selim Özdoğan in Duisburg, José F. A. Oliver in Essen, Que Du Luu in Gelsenkirchen and Léda Forgó in Recklinghausen. The children taking part will learn about the authors and their writing, and be encouraged to read and write themselves. The participants of each writing workshop will then present the outcome of their work at a public book festival in the autumn.

All writing workshops will come together at a major book gala at the end of November 2010 in Essen, tying in with a photo exhibition of Adelbert von Chamisso prize-winners. The programme also includes 25 readings by other Chamisso recipients in schools throughout the Ruhr and a staged reading performed by members of the Renitenztheater in Stuttgart.
