Living-rooms, artists' studios, lofts and stores - established artists and up-and-coming musicians will be offered unique stages in private spaces. The festival "Music in the City's Houses": It's an opportunity to enjoy quality music in individual surroundings, experience international artists up close and personal, talk with hosts of different nationalities and attend extraordinary concerts at a fair price. The concerts' special atmosphere is made possible by the exemplary involvement of regular Ruhr residents.

Hosts dedicated to culture open their private spaces, turn them into temporary concert halls and cover the events' costs through donations. The KunstSalon's programme has flourished in Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin where it has made substantial contributions to the cities' cultural scene, involving music lovers in a high quality yet very personal experience.

Now the festival is coming to the Ruhr metropolis for the first time as part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. Around 150 concerts will feature everything from classical and jazz to pop and world music.

"Music in the City's Houses" has several unique characteristics, among them musical diversity, the dedication of individuals and bringing these supporters of music, audiences and artists together - which is sure to benefit all involved. It’s a project for the region likely to grow in coming years as the network of hosts grows steadily.

KunstSalon has been working to bring artists and audiences together since 1994 through a number of projects in art, music, literature, theatre and dance. The organization puts a special focus on supporting up-and-coming artists and regularly offers concerts, discussion forums and special events at its location in Cologne.
