Arts for Education!
International Symposium on Arts Education in Europe
The "Arts for Education!" symposium, organised by the Mercator Foundation, focuses on the theme of political and social responsibility for arts education in Europe and the various ways that the subject is conveyed. Arts education means actively engaging with the arts and culture. It shapes personalities, contributes to socialisation, expands people’s horizons and opens up new perspectives.
Arts education is a vital part of the overall education of an individual. Children and young people as the recipients of arts educational activities, as well as their requirements and desires, are the focus here. The interaction of all those involved in arts education is as important as an appreciation of the international context. These are the key objectives behind the international, multi-perspective "Arts for Education!" symposium, sponsored by the Mercator Foundation. By concentrating on the theme of arts education, the Mercator Foundation seeks to embed the arts in the core subject area of educational establishments, thereby enriching and changing the education system.
With its commitment to arts education, the Mercator Foundation underlines the high social importance of educational and cultural activities that aim to foster creative independence in children and young people.
