"Art Boosts the Economy" Symposium
It's time to move away from the one-way notion that "business supports art" and to explore an inversion of the idea. "Art Boosts the Economy" is the subject of an interdisciplinary symposium with well-known lateral thinkers from the worlds of art, culture, business and science.
We live in non-linear times. Networked processes are taking the place of analogue technologies. Problems will in future be solved not by looking at two parallel factors but at many interlacing ones. Complexity, networking and authenticity are at the centre. Lateral thinking as an approach to driving innovation can be particularly well observed in non-linear artistic processes.
To what extent are non-linear processes and artistic thinking responsible for sustained successful performance and economic development? Which perspectives for the future can we derive from this? The [ID]factory of the University of Science and Technology has invited internationally renowned lateral thinkers to discuss these and other issues. Speakers include: Prof. Ursula Bertram ([ID]factory/Dortmund University of Science and Technology), Prof. Dr. Dietrich Grönemeyer (medical practitioner, Grönemeyer Institute for Microtherapy, Bochum), Reinhild Hoffmann (choreographer, opera director, Berlin), Prof. Dr. Gerald Hüther (neurobiologist, University of Göttingen), Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kilger (physicist and philosopher, Head of DASA), Jean-Claude Leclère (German Chamber Philharmonia, Bremen), Dr.-Ing. Werner Preißing (architect and systems analyst, Office for Innovation Research, Mainz), Prof. Dr. Metin Tolan (physicist, Dortmund University of Science and Technology), Ramazan Uçar, Chairman of the Federation of Islamic Communities in Northern Germany, Hamburg), Timm Ulrichs (artist, Hanover/Münster/Berlin, tbc).
