For the first time ever, Duisburg-Essen University invites the public to a Night of Science on both its campuses. The event is being organised in cooperation with other scientific institutions in the Ruhr region and the cities of Duisburg and Essen. This central contribution of the university to the Capital of Culture year is designed to arouse the interest and curiosity of the people of the Ruhr as regards scientific issues and working methods.

Both campuses at the University of Duisburg-Essen will forge contacts with interested visitors and demonstrate how a twin-campus university functions. Experiments, lab visits and presentations will reveal real-life examples of what scientists in the Ruhr region are working on and provide a glimpse of the exciting mysteries of modern-day research. Rather than being merely confronted with scientific facts, visitors will be treated to inspiring insights involving special effects, music, art, theatre and readings and other events. In this glimpse behind the scenes of laboratories and academic institutes, visitors will be able to experience the wonders of hands-on science. Questions and audience participation are expressly encouraged.

The Duisburg and Essen campuses will be connected via video linkup to each other as well as to other European universities that are offering similar events the same night.

Other scientific establishments also have the opportunity to have a presence on either campus.
