The Metropolis
With a Heart and Hands
The European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 is charged with blending a wide range of different productions and stagings into a widely accepted self-portrait of the Ruhr region. It's only natural that the goals and methods, successes and failures of those responsible for this mega-event be looked at during a colloquium.
The more similar accomplishments by other metropolises and megacities can be compared and contrasted, the better this analysis is bound to be. The colloquium is expected to conduct a comparative analysis from both historic and systematic perspectives to arrive at a first evaluation of RUHR.2010.
The scientific presentations will be complemented by productions and stagings on architecture, urban planning, design and art. The Dortmund colloquium’s task will be to define the relationship between other actual or metaphorical, organically grown or deliberately planned, still expanding or already retracting metropolises around the world with the concepts, plans and designs for the Ruhr metropolis. Subjects covered range from urban planning to the support of economic development and the marketing of culture to photography, film and all forms of artistic expression.
November 25 - 27, 2010, 10 am - 6 pm
FH Dortmund, department of design
Attendance fee: 10-60 EUR
The colloquium is organized by the Fachhochschule Dortmund’s Design department in cooperation with partners in Germany and other European countries; anyone interested can participate.
