From June 20 until the end of August 2010, Castrop-Rauxel will be awash with verse thanks to an idea from local resident and author Roy Kift. Poetry will take centre stage throughout the town as no less than 2010 poetic compositions turn cafés, restaurants, shop windows, hospitals, community centres, hotels and cultural venues into oases of verse.

Poetry walks will lead to poetry "stations" and local artists and creative cultural minds. The exhibition will encompass a selection of the most lyrical German poems from "Minnesang" to contemporary compositions, as well as translations of classic foreign works, all displayed around the town. The poems are categorised by topic, for instance "Seasons", "Family", "Work", and "Humour". Individuals may submit their own verses or favourite poems with the option of a dedication to a special friend or relation. Individual submissions must have no more than 16 lines.

Poetry is also the subject of an exhibition entitled "Europe ... a poem". Curator Roy Kift will offer an insight into a unique collection of works by Europe’s leading contemporary poets.
