"Inter_cool 3.0." is not an exhibition in the conventional sense. Rather, it networks the lives and lifestyles of local youngsters via the Internet and other cutting-edge mass media such as mobile phones. These are the media of choice for young people wanting to express their needs and communicate with one another. It's a world of rap battles, moves, body karaoke and dance in which slang reigns supreme.

And it's all about image, attractiveness, independence, sub-cultures, fashion trends, computer games, dating, parties, extreme sports, dance, cheerleading, TV series, not forgetting the commercial negatives of youth culture, peer pressure, exclusion and a lack of money. In cooperation with local schools and youth centres, the project will include competitions to make mobile-phone videos and films for mobile devices, not to mention performance contests. Upcoming international artists will take photos, produce videos and create street art and interactive installations, with young people having their say in who is invited to show off their talent. Initially, the Dortmund U will be the heart of "Inter_cool 3.0." and will also feature a gallery showcasing art by young people - for creative types who set the pace in matters of style, whether clothing, music or videos. From Dortmund, the exhibition will embark on a virtual and real-life tour to Leeds, Tampere and Vienna, calling in at partner organisations.
