Over 350 students of the youth art schools of the entire Ruhr Metropolis are to open the region's eyes with a vision of fresh faces and new vistas. Through photographs, interviews and self-written texts, young people’s perspectives of home and its inhabitants will evolve as the basis for a dialogue between the generations. The perspectives offered will be aligned to various professional groups: from dancers to truck washers, from town mayor to hodscha (an Islamic religious teacher).

An unusual reflection of the region will also be created through self-portraits and alienated photographs of the landscape and architecture. Within the framework of the "Colours of the Ruhr" initiative, a major joint exhibition and also various local exhibitions will be put together from hundreds of faces and viewscapes.

The high point will come in September 2010 with the presentation of the large-format creations as part of the "Youth.Culture.Festival NRW & RUHR.2010" at the newly opened Dortmund U tower. A further highlight will be the incorporation of the "Bunker Eigen" in Bottrop, a former air-raid shelter which is to be permanently fitted out as a gallery.

This initial networking programme involving the youth art schools of the Ruhr Metropolis will eventually be expanded into the "face to face - Vision of Europe" project as the young people of the Ruhr come into creative contact through workshops and the Internet with people of their own age from throughout Europe. "face to face" is the prelude to a permanent vehicle facilitating collaboration between the youth art schools of the Ruhr Metropolis and Europe.
