Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone
International light art on the Ruhr

"Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone" design for Duisburg inner harbour by modulorbeat / Design: modulorbeat und Kulturhauptstadtbüro Duisburg RUHR.2010
Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone, the international festival of light art, will show the particular landscapes of the Ruhr in a new light. In a partnership of the cities of Duisburg, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Essen, Hattingen, Bochum, Witten, Hagen and Dortmund, the Ruhr will be shown as a very special recreation and natural preservation area through light art productions in September 2010.
Internationally renowned light artists like Peter Kogler, Yves Netzhammer, Siegrun Appelt, Tatzu Nishi, Klaus Obermaier, Andreas M. Kaufmann and others have been invited to highlight the special qualities of the Ruhr's unique landscapes.
The artists will create works at selected locations along the Ruhr that enable new sensory impressions and change visitors' emotional experiences. The light art will direct the viewers' eye to specific places and tell stories that are very different from everyday life experiences.
For the closing event on September 26, the Ruhr at Duisburg’s inner harbour will connect with the Rhein-Herne Canal, which will be transformed into the CultureCanal as part of the year of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The final staging will feature mobile concerts by the Duisburg Philharmonic, walk-in light architecture and multimedia performances that show new and lasting images.
