Innovative, experimental, unusual: the first "mobile working spaces" will be on show at the Zollverein World Heritage Site from summer 2010. Modular and far from conventional, they represent a new structural culture and will serve as offices and event locations promising to attract primarily young, creative companies.

The buildings have been developed by teams of architects and students seeking to use new, experimental construction materials. They will be built by renowned companies from the construction industry.

PH-Z2
A creative approach using stackable bales of waste paper that have a protective coating to prevent the penetration of moisture.
The selected material is entirely sustainable. Designed in the form of an archaic-looking Inca pyramid, PH-Z2 is an events hall with an exceptional atmosphere.

openOffice
Old meets new:
containers transformed into a modern office building. With an outer shell made from film solar panels, the openOffice can supply all its own energy. Light, open-plan rooms with communication zones and inviting outside terraces. A model for new, creative work concepts.

Following completion of the construction work, a floor area totalling around 300 m2 will be available to rent: adaptable, innovative in the selection of materials and with compelling design. But just how usable are these buildings? The structures will be subjected to their first tests in 2010. The results will be discussed in interactive forums during symposia and meetings involving professionals, tenants and implementation partners. The completion of the first two modular structures by summer 2010 will be followed by a second construction phase comprising more experimental buildings.
