Situation Art
The KUBUS Annex
A new look at the world: "Situation Kunst" (Situation Art), the museum collection that brings together architecture, nature and art in Bochum, has been provided with an additional building to house alternating exhibitions and events.
Known as the KUBUS, it rose from the ruins of the Weitmar House which was destroyed in the Second World War and will open in May 2010 with an exhibition of landscape art entitled "Weltsichten" (Views of the World). Landscape art is the ideal medium for reflecting the individual's view of their environment. Particularly in a region such as the Ruhr, where the landscape was ruthlessly exploited during industrialisation and governed by the imperative of economic viability, an artistic view of the landscape and the inhabited environment presents some particularly powerful imagery.
"Situation Art" forms part of the modern art collection belonging to the Ruhr University in Bochum, and hosts not only alternating exhibitions but also art installations or "environments", which include the work of Maria Nordman, David Rabinowitch and Richard Serra.
