Ruhr Sport Culture - Colourful, Inclusive, International
As part of the Ruhr Olympics 2010
Movement, sport and fun. For the people of the Ruhr Metropolis it's a way of life. Sport unites, bringing together different cultures. People from other nations, from all over Europe, from Asia, Africa, South and North America and Australia have brought their traditional sports, games and dances to their new homeland.
"Pinnchenkloppen", horse-shoe throwing, pelota, capoeira, boules, frisbee, ultimate, jianzi, korfball, cricket, croquet, lacrosse, tchoukball, tamburello, krulbol and wushu aren't Asian remedies, Chinese dishes or Italian liqueurs. They are simply the games and sports from all over the world that have found a new home in the Ruhr.
For two days, there will be an opportunity to discover this colourful diversity of activities within the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. Cultural groups and expat associations, sport clubs and local teams will present the typical sports, games and dances of other countries. A vibrant and joyous mix of displays, demonstrations and workshops. Enthralling modes of self-expression, acrobatics, bright costumes, unusual games with their rules explained - and all presented as a perfect opportunity to have a go!
On both days, joining in at Sportpark Duisburg will be "strictly permitted"!
The venue for "Ruhr Sport Culture - Colourful, Inclusive, International" is Sportpark Duisburg, which, in addition to hosting top-ranking events such as the Canoeing and Rowing World Championships and the 2005 World Games, offers a wide range of sports and leisure activities for the local population.
