Steel-hard mountain bikes will be coming up against the challenge of coal and steel landscapes at the RUHRCross.2010. Competitors will be pedalling through man-made and natural landscapes around the town of Witten. As an additional bonus mountain bikers will have a unique and exclusive opportunity to visit cultural monuments in the saddle.
Follow our recommendations regarding tour lengths as follows. Families, kids and beginners join the 25 km (15.6 mi) trip along the castle ruin Hardenstein, Castle Steinhausen and domicil Kemnade. You are an advanced off-road biker? Join the 45 km (28.13 mi) "Recreational Tour" along the Coal And Steel path traversing the Ruhr, the Mutten and the Elbsche Valley. Ambitious bikers will cycle the 65 km (40.63 mi) "Fitness Tour". This trip is also headlined by our Coal And Steel motto and covers several cultural monument fields of interest. But, please be prepared for steep up- und downhill route sections.
Start and Goal of the tours will be set near the Friedr. Lohmann Corporation factory premises in Witten-Herbede, Ruhrtal 2. Catering and support will be offered along the routes at several stations.

After that things will be going higher and higher in the TAUERNCross.2010. On the 31st July and 1st August in Witten’s twin town of Mallnitz, simultaneously with the Kärnten National Park festival, there will also be different categories of mountain bike tours taking place through the Hohe Tauern National Park, including Alpine summits over 3,000 metres high.
