Starlight Run of the Faiths
Integration has been a part of everyday life in the Ruhr for generations. People from different cultures came to this industrial region and laid the foundation for economic prosperity together with those who had already been living here. Since that time, the diversity of religions and culture and the variety of sports played have been an unmistakable emblem of the Ruhr.
At the same time, they provide an important basis for integration. The concepts of peace and fair play are the common roots for this colourfulness and the social adhesion of the region's people. Sport, culture and religions speak all languages and unite people. On 29 August, the "Fun Run of the Faiths" will lead participants of different religions and beliefs to Broich Castle's Müga-Wiese in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Participants can decide how they are going to take part: whether on rollerblades, walking, running, in a wheelchair, by unicycle or bicycle, in a rowing boat or canoe - anything is possible and everyone is welcome. The top priority for the organisers is that people come together to participate.
The groups will start from churches, mosques and synagogues, sports clubs or their own homes, and will be joined by friends and neighbours. All in all, the event will demonstrate that the integrational power of religion and sport has many different faces. All those wishing to participate in the fun run must register in advance. After the run, there will be a multi-faith celebration on the Müga-Wiese from 4 p.m. onwards, followed by an intercultural friendship festival. Registrations are not required for the celebration and the festival – everyone is welcome to attend. Entertainment at the party and intercultural festival will be provided by Farfarello, the violinist and his band, the St. Stephan Youth Choir from Cologne, the S(w)ing & Praise gospel choir and other performers.
