Four artistic directors, Prof. Karl-Heinz Petzinka, Steven Sloane, Aslı Sevindim and Prof. Dieter Gorny, each head a specific theme area in the cultural capital programme.
Along with the two managing directors, Dr. h.c. Fritz Pleitgen and Prof. Dr. Scheytt, they are jointly responsible for the programme of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010.
The artistic directors are distinguished personalities from the region
At the presentation of the four artistic directors, Dr. Fritz Pleitgen und Prof. Dr. Oliver Scheytt were convinced that they had persuaded outstanding distinguished personalities to take over the artistic direction of RUHR.2010:
"The biographies of the directors, their personal capabilities and current duties qualify them as outstanding representatives of a self-assured Ruhr cultural metropolitan area. The metropolitan area intends to position itself anew as the European Capital of Culture 2010. All four persons are closely linked to the Ruhrgebiet in their own individual way. Each of them has worked for a long time to sharpen the cultural profile of the Ruhrgebiet, thereby helping to promote its transformation into a European cultural metropolis, both nationally and internationally."
