Festival of Light Art
Concept "Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone"
"Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone" will undertake a shift of perspective and will give the Ruhr area renewed energies. Internationally renowned artists like Peter Kogler, Yves Netzhammer, Siegrun Appelt, Tatzu Nishi, Modulorbeat, Andreas M. Kaufmann, Mader Stublic Wiermann, Xavier de Richemont, Klaus Obermaier and Christoph Hildebrand will quest locations having a particular atmosphere and will transform them to a resonant space of the new.
During the past years, new particular locations have been created along the Ruhr, its branches and in the Duisburg Inner Harbour: they are spaces of longing that people adopt in ever new and different ways with enormous energy. They turn them into their spaces thus picturing a piece of a re-invented identity. "Ruhrlights: Twilight Zone" takes a look at these locations and makes visible the manifold connections within one of Europe’s biggest metropolitan regions. At selected sites, the artists will draw our attention to the as yet undiscovered. They will change everyday reality and will set us into a state that will allow the creation of something new.
After its launch in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 2008, the festival of light art will set one focus point this year: "Twilight Zone" refers to the current floating state of many places in the region. It is a state in which forces, elements, ideas and imaginary pictures are struggling to achieve something new.
Curator of the festival of light art is Dr. Söke Dinkla.
