Kurt Moll
Kurt Moll began his musical studies on the guitar and cello and as soloist in the school choir. He then went on to study at Cologne Conservatoire and privately with Emmy Müller in Krefeld. As a mere twenty year old he began his career at the Cologne opera and soon after was invited to Aachen. There followed engagements in Mainz and Wuppertal until he won a position as an ensemble member of the Hamburg State Opera.
From 1973 to 1977 Kurt Moll made a first class name for himself at the Bayreuth Festival where he lent his unmistakable vocal timbre to various operatic roles: amongst others Fafner, Pogner, König Marke and Hunding. At the Salzburg Festival he sang Sarastro und Wolfgang Sawalisch, Osmin at la Scala and Gurnemanz at the Vienna State Opera. In 1975 Kurt Moll was named a Kammersänger thereafter appearing at Covent Garden in London and in1978 making his debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, where he appeared annually from then on.
The highlights of the years up to 2006 were Die Entführung aus dem Serail at La Scala and a complete tour of the Vienna State Opera to Tokio as Ochs in the Rosenkavalier, as well as performances of Rosenkavalier in London and the role of Gurnemanz at the Munich Opera Festival.
In 1992 Kurt Moll was appointed Professor at Cologne Conservatory and became a renowned and passionate singing teacher.
During his career Kurt Moll has sung all the major parts for his voice at all the great opera houses in the world. This extraordinary artist has recorded over 100 records under Sir , , und amongst others. Kurt Moll has won numerous critics and recording awards and in particular the German Federal Cross of Merit.
On July 31, 2006 the great singer Kurt Moll bad farewell to the opera stage in the role of the night watchman in Wagner’s Mastersingers of Nürnberg at the Munich Opera Festival.
