A singing city? A singing metropolis!
On Saturday 5th June 2010, after all the church bells across the whole region ring at noon, hundreds of choirs and thousands of people will sing the same song. Then throughout the day the sounds of singing will fill the Ruhr Metropolis.
DAY OF SONG offers hundreds of opportunities to join in: a singing convoy of ships will steam down the Rhein-Herne-Kanal, all the university choirs of the region come together to give a series of Wandelkonzerte in Essen-Werden, where choirs and public rotate from location to location, Karaoke-oases pop up in Gelsenkirchen, choruses celebrate dockland and island festivals on the region’s waterways, customers haggle in song in marketplaces and whole pedestrian precincts are transformed into streams of singing citizens. Passers-by, amateurs and professionals – join in and let the power of singing sweep you off your feet!
So far more than 20,000 singers in choirs and choruses have already committed to giving concerts throughout the day in the different categories of !SING sozial, !SING frontal, !SING global, !SING sakral, Chor kanal and Musik total. That is on average 377 people in each of the 53 towns and cities that make up the Ruhr Metropolis. These singers have started the ball rolling – join with them in song!
