The original Ghost Parade 2010

A Ship of Fools is on its way from France (and even further) to Oberhausen, Essen, Recklinghausen and Dortmund. It is coming directly from the Middle Ages. Its captain is none other than Don Quixote and its helmsman, Sancho Panza. Bizarre ghostly figures will be moving around on board.
These include witches, giants, weird creatures, jugglers, magicians and, allegedly, also masked international artists and citizens from the four harbour towns on the Ruhr and their twin towns of Amiens, Douai, Grenoble and Istanbul. Accompanied by fanfares from trumpets and shalms, mandolins and bandoneons, and the boats on the Rhine-Herne canal, they will be sailing down the waterway under the flag of the jester’s licence. Roads along the canal will be decorated, costumes stitched together and faces painted with makeup. Local citizens will be gathering to welcome the guests from afar in a suitable manner. Bands, drummers and dancers will be greeting the jesters when they tie up at the quay and Don Quixote will be acting as the master of ceremonies for the start of the Original Ghost Parade 2010 - on the 17th September in the Zeche Carl in Essen, on the 18th September in Recklinghausen Harbour, and on the 19th September in the Fredenbaumpark in Dortmund. Everybody is welcome to take part in this anarchic archaic spectacle and get carried away by the characters on the Ship of Fools.
