Designer goods in kiosks. Kiosks are regarded as an essential - indeed vital - part of life in the Ruhr Metropolis. This project devised by the BochumDesign e. V. will be using them to present several traditional virtues of the region: inventiveness, creative, practical thinking, high quality work and handwork.
Discovery trails will lead from Bochum all over the Ruhr Metropolis to kiosks in which 30 European designers will be exhibiting and offering for sale articles of daily use which they have made themselves. The design kiosks also refer to their immediate industrial and cultural environment and the creative businesses which have been set up here and which are still waiting to be discovered. Consumer demand for more quality and individuality in articles of daily use means that creative artists are becoming increasingly important in the region. In March 2010, during the "Local Heroes" week in Recklinghausen, students from the Technical University in Dortmund will be presenting their own mobile design kiosk. It will then be touring the design kiosk trail during the rest of the year. The event will be accompanied by a retrospective exhibition of all the prizewinners and participants in the Bochum design prize since 1997. The DESIGNKIOSK RUHR.2010 will enable a network of higher education institutions, businesses and specialist associations and institutions to be developed.
