Living fossils in an urban biotope. The city centres of Europe resemble each other more and more. But despite the constant recurrence of international brand names in shopping malls and restaurants there are still places where people can meet up to chat and maintain social contacts in a more private atmosphere.
In Dortmund this could be a corner bar for example: in Istanbul, a barber’s shop. How do these "communication locations" survive, especially their traditions? As a contrast to modern life or simply as another part of it? Artists from Istanbul and Dortmund will be working on traditional, present-day and future orientated themes and staging (dance) performances in small shops and urban spaces. The final result will be, on the one hand, a collage of key concepts reflecting traditional life and, on the other, video and audio files. The material will be worked on in a multimedia fashion. The contributions by the choreographer Özlem Alkıs¸, the media artist Ekmel Ertan and the theatre director Rolf Dennemann will be published on the internet. The performances can be seen live at the Istanbul AMBER Festival and in the Dortmund "Theater im Depot".
