PIANO - Fortissimo

Piano is musical language for "play quietly". It is also the name of a fascinating mime company from Nizhny Novgorod. Each of their performances consists of several scenes from the group’s current programme, with the addition of short improvisations with the audience. The remarkable thing about the PIANO ensemble is that the actors themselves are deaf.
In September 2010 this unique ensemble will be playing at the Studio-Bühne Essen. Their touring plan will also include performances and workshops in various schools and public venues in the Ruhr Metropolis.
PIANO guarantees its audience moments of magic and poetry, silent fragility and liveliness. The actors are children, artistically impressive, free of prejudice and full of curiosity. Theatrical means enable them, seemingly weightlessly, playfully, to overcome the barriers of speech, language and culture at a high artistic level. Unfortunately for the group, the reality of life back home is anything but magical. The Russian media generally regard the integration of handicapped persons into society as a difficult subject. That said, there is also still plenty to learn in Germany. PIANO – Fortissimo is an experience that shows how many happy, emotional and beautiful moments may also be part of it.
